About the Project

The Eastern European Jewish Communities Project (ShtetlAtlas) is a research initiative documenting 1000 years of history of Jewish communities in Eastern Europe.

The project aggregates geographic, demographic, and historical data from diverse archival sources and makes them accessible to researchers and the public through interactive maps, open datasets, and visualization tools.

Research Team

The project is conducted at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, led by Dr. Yannay Spitzer with the assistance of Shneor Shprintsin.
